Medical education in China took a significant turn in 2006 when the Chinese Government initiated the admission of international students to programs conducted in English at Chinese medical universities. This move paved the way for students to pursue their MBBS degree in China, marking the beginning of a new era in medical education.

Since 2013, studying MBBS in China has garnered increasing popularity among Indian students seeking quality medical education abroad. To uphold rigorous standards of education, specific quotas are allocated to selected medical schools in China for admitting international students into these English-language programs.

While the Government does not prohibit other Chinese medical universities from accepting international students, there is a stipulation that these students must enroll in medical programs conducted in Chinese. This led to a challenge, as many agents began sending Indian students to China for the Chinese Medicine Program (TCM) without prior disclosure.
