Private Schools List in Montreal

AvH is a trilingual (German, English, French) independent private school governed by the "Alexander von Humboldt Ecole internationale allemande inc." school association. It was founded in 1980 with the goal of providing a multilingual learning environment while satisfying both German as well as Quebec education requirements.

According to the curriculum, students attend mandatory courses in natural sciences, social sciences and arts, resulting in a balanced and integral general education. The main language of instruction is German.

Diplomas conform to those issued by both German and Quebec schools.

AvH belongs to a worldwide network of over 130 German Schools Abroad, supported to a large part by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany which provides financial and personnel resources. The school participates in the so-called PASCH Initiative, a program launched by the German Foreign Minister. Its goal is to recruit 1000 partner schools outside Germany which not only offer German-language programs but also motivate general interest in the country, its culture and institutions, and encourage their graduates to study in Germany.

A grant from the German government permitted the purchase of the school building in 1995. In 2009/10, the construction of a new gymnasium was also substantially funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.

AvH offers the following diplomas:

- German International baccalaureat ("DIAP") at the end of Grade 12
- High school leaving certificate at the end of Grade 11
- "Realschule" certificate at the end of Grade 10 (only applicable in Germany)

With approximately 315 students from preschool to Grade 12, AvH is a relatively small institution. The friendly atmosphere provides perfect conditions to foster the personal and individual development of all its students.
Open Houses take place twice a year, in October and January.
