Before Sylvain began a comedy career, he studied chemistry at McGill University. Later, he got a bachelorÂ’s degree in commerce from the University of Montreal. After graduation, he became a representative for a major computer company, and started doing stand up comedy here and there in various comedy clubs at night.
After a very short time, there was such demand for his comedy style that he was able to devote himself exclusively to comedy, touring across Canada in English, and in French, and eventually all the way to France and Switzerland. Later, Sylvain also became a writer for some of the most popular TV shows in Quebec and several of the best comics in the business.
sylv2In English Canada, his talent led him to be featured in 8 JUST FOR LAUGHS comedy festivals where he participated in the Just for laughs Galas on the big stage as well as several other festival venues, such as “Comedy Night in Canada,” “Bubbling with laughter,” and “The Montreal Show.” His other television credits in English Canada include his own episode of the critically acclaimed CBC series “Comics”, as well as “The founding nations of Comedy” from the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, in which Sylvain shared the stage with comedians Derek Edwards and Shaun Majumder. Sylvain also co-hosted a CBC comedy special called “Crossing the main” with Montreal comic David Acer. On radio, Sylvain has participated in several episodes of the hit show “Madly off in all directions” hosted by Lorne Elliot.
In French Canada, Sylvain is a well-established star, greatly appreciated by the general public. He has participated in 12 Juste pour Rire comedy festivals in Montréal as both performer and head writer on the galas. He has written and co-produced three one-man shows, as well as an interactive theatre play that went on to become a huge success across the province.
Four times, Sylvain has won the WRITER OF THE YEAR AWARD at the prestigious Oliver Awards Gala, which celebrates Quebec’s top comedic performers and writers. He was also awarded a GEMINI AWARD for his work on a French-Canadian television series called “Un gars, une fille”, which went on to be exported to over thirty countries worldwide.
