Former IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute will face Roberto Feliciano Bolonti on Dec. 6 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Interbox announced on Monday.

Bute (31-2, 24 knockouts) is 1-2 in his past three fights, having fallen by unanimous decision to former titleholder Jean Pascal in a light heavyweight bout at Bell Centre in January. Prior to facing Pascal, Bute scored a unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Denis Grachev in November 2012 to rebound from a fifth round knockout loss to Carl Froch in May 2012.
In his last fight in June, Bolonti (35-3, 24 KO) lost a unanimous decision to Juergen Braehmer that ended his run of five consecutive knockout victories.
“I wanted to face a quality opponent who is coming to fight,” said Bute, 34. “Bolonti is a persistent, come-forward boxer who is difficult to rattle. This is exactly what I need and exactly what I will train to counter.”
Bute has announced he will be trained by Freddie Roach against Bolonti and has plans to join Roach and WBO welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines in advance of Pacquiao’s Nov. 22 defense against rising WBO 140-pound beltholder Chris Algieri in Macao, China.
“Bolonti is an excellent challenge for Lucian and Interbox is very happy to have concluded an agreement with this popular boxer of world caliber,” said Jean Bédard, president of Interbox. “Bolonti had several other options but chose to fight Lucian. Judging by the performance of Bolonti in his last fight for a world championship, our fans are in for a real treat.”
Bolonti’s previous loss before Braehmer was by unanimous decision to Tony Bellew in November 2012.
