KLEZMER COMPANY ORCHESTRA - Montreal concert

The Florida-based Klezmer Company Orchestra (KCO) will perform new energetic arrangements of Klezmer melodies fused with Latin percussion, Argentinean Tango and Afro-Cuban dance beats along with classic songs from the Yiddish theatre. The program will feature revitalized vintage music from acclaimed Jewish-American composers including Shalom Secunda, Abe Ellstein, Yoselle Rosenblatt, Alexander Olshanetsky, and Irving Fields. KCO was founded by Aaron Kula in 1997 with a mission to perform world music from a broad range of cultures and historical periods. The popular ensemble continues to receive critical acclaim for its innovative musical fusion. Its debut CD Beyond the Tribes won "Best Klezmer Album" and "Best Klezmer Song" for 2009 from Just Plain Folks, the world's largest independent music organization. KCO is the professional ensemble-in-residence at Florida Atlantic University Libraries in Boca Raton, and is the only ensemble of its kind at an academic library in the country. The library's vast historical print music collections serve as source material for new compositions, taking the music from "shelf to stage."
