Cliquez ici pour voir plus de Concerts et SpectaclesThe Joe Sullivan Big Band returns to the Segal Centre on October 5th for a concert featuring special guests Lorne Lofsky and Kirk MacDonald, as part of l'Off festival de jazz. The two visitors from Toronto are now long-time collaborators with both the ensemble and Sullivan himself. The great Canadian guitarist Lorne Lofsky, formerly of the Oscar Peterson trio, has now performed extensively with Sullivan's quintet and sextet and has recorded with both the Big Band and the quintet. Kirk MacDonald, one of Canada's premier jazz artists, is back with the ensemble for the first time since 2008. Before that, he was a frequent visitor during the band's early years and is also a regular collaborator.
Sullivan has written extensively for MacDonald's own Toronto-based jazz orchestra. This concert will feature several new pieces featuring the two guests as well as music from the band's extensive repertoire. And let's not forget the stellar regulars that make up this world-class ensemble: from the venerable André White, who's piano anchors one of Canada's finest rhythm sections, through the inexorable logic of Al Mclean's tenor saxophone, to the stratospheric exclamations of lead trumpeter Jocelyn Couture., no band is tighter.
