Né à Québec en 61, Jean Leclerc, alias Jean Leloup, est banni en 64 par ses camarades de garderie pour affront à la culture canadienne-française, et est condamné à vivre en exil en Afrique. De retour au Canada, pris de dépression dans le gris nordique, il découvre l'Art. En 78, il décide de devenir peintre, puis écrivain. C'est après avoir vu une photo de Jim Morrison qu'il se décide pour la chanson. Jean « Leloup » est né, chanteur rebelle du Québec, portant haut de forme et bottes pointues, costards classe seventies. De 1986 à 2003, Leloup est consacré ! Adulé ! Aimé, détesté ! Écouté ! Cité ! Après treize ans de succès, les médias sont informés que le personnage Leloup mourra symboliquement à la fin de sa tournée en brûlant sa guitare préférée et en l'envoyant disparaître le long de la rivière Yamaska, sur un radeau de fortune. Leloup est mort. Le 6 octobre 2005, grave insulte à la littérature, Leclerc publie le roman Noir destin que le mien. Les doigts du Dead tremblent. Quelque temps plus tard, Mexico, l'album parfait du Dead, est enfin achevé. Leloup est mort. Vive le Dead. Jean Leclerc fait ressusciter son alter ego Jean Leloup en 2008 le temps d'un concert à Québec et nous revient en force avec l'album « Mille excuses Milady » en avril 2009.
