A mental illusion? A challenge to quantify visual sensation, Holistic Strata is also a unique, infinite landscape and an incredible sensory experience. Dance traverses electronic and digital media (or the reverse?) as it mutates into an elusive form. By addressing patterns of visual recognition, Hiroaki Umeda reviews the mechanisms of hallucination and false perception, and their intersection with reality. A composer, video artist, choreographer, and performer, he creates artistic, imaginative statements that masterfully balance ostensible contradictions. Minimalism and radicalism, frenzy and violence, all find their place in a clean, visual composition. Originally from Japan, land of digital culture par excellence, Hiroaki Umeda seeks to reveal the remnants of humanity that lurk within technological mutations.
