The Pskov State University holds the esteemed status of being a 'Flagship' University in Russia, a designation reserved for the first public university established by a state. Typically, such universities receive substantial support from the government, and gaining admission to them is considered a privilege. While the official establishment of Pskov State University occurred in December 2010, its roots trace back to 1935.
Initially known as the Pskov State Pedagogical University, named after S. M. Kirov, it was formed through the merger of three other institutions. With its origins dating back to 1935, the Pedagogical University serves as the foundation for much of Pskov State University's academic heritage. Therefore, students can expect to benefit from the rich academic experience accumulated over 86 years.
Pskov State University boasts an infrastructure befitting its status as a Flagship University. Spread across its campus are 22 academic buildings and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. In addition, there are 11 student dormitories, along with the Student House, which houses a hostel and a polyclinic.
